The domain Google.com was registered and incorporated at a friend’s garage in Menlo Park, California. Back then Google had only eight employees and further it moved from Menlo park to Palo Alto. This carried forward of Google, initially started by Sergey Brin and Larry Page. Both co-founded the Google, now comes amongst the most profitable internet companies in the world. Since then, Google has grown to become the biggest search engine on the internet. Furthermore, the company’s email, mapping, cloud storage and other features have become some of the most popular and relied-upon consumer-grade utilities on the web. And with those successes came money, lots of it, but it took a lot of effort.
Have a glimpse into the story.
Sergey Brin was born in Russian Jewish family in Russia, Moscow. His father is a mathematician, now retired from Department of Mathematics, University of Maryland and his mother was a scientist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.
While Brin’s father constantly faced hidden anti-Semitism, they migrated from the soviet union. Although the Brin family enjoyed their life in Moscow, Brin’s father knew that eventually Sergey Brin would be restricted from many activities and opportunities because of his Jewish nationality.
Brin attended Paint Branch Montessori School, then Eleanor Roosevelt High School in the suburbs of Washington DC. Later Brin enrolled in at the nearby University of Maryland, where he studied computer science and mathematics.
Sergey Brin’s first computer Commodore 64 he received from his father as a present for his birthday when he turned nine years old. Soon, Sergey surprised his school teachers, giving unusual project prepared on the computer and printed out on the printer.
The turning period
The crucial moment in the biography of Sergey Brin happened in March 1995 when he met Lawrence “Larry” Page at the spring meeting of the prospective Ph.D.s in Computer Science. They were not happy with each other and would argue at any topic.
The together work
Both started preparation for writing doctoral theses and began to work together on a research project designed to improve the methods of finding information on the Internet fundamentally. They presumed that the most popular data was the most useful.
Page and Brin were convinced that the most important ranking factor of web pages was backlinks, but not keyword stuffing. Brin and Page decided to test this idea as a part of their research project. They launched the search engine BackRub with the PageRank algorithm.
Larry and Sergey brainstormed a catchier name of BackRub. They turned to their mate Sean Anderson for help. Anderson suggested the name Googolplex. a huge number, the digit 1 followed by 10 to a 100 degrees. Sergey and Larry liked the name and proposed to shorten it to Googol and after spelling mistake, it came as Google.com.
Google was incorporated as a limited liability company, Google Inc. Larry Page became as CEO, and Sergey Brin became as President. Their first office was a rented garage. Slowly the formation kept expanding and the number of satisfied users has been growing rapidly, and the word Google was popping from all over the place.
Brin has a quote on success. Obviously everyone wants to be successful, but I want to be looked back on as being very innovative, very trusted and ethical and ultimately making a big difference in the world.
